Diktation, voice dictation for Mac
LiveSWIFT · SWIFTUI · RUST · WHISPER.CPP · METAL
Design and developmentPrivate, offline dictation that types where your cursor is.
The project
Diktation is a free, open-source alternative to subscription dictation apps. Hold a key, speak, let go: the text appears where your cursor is, in any app. Recognition runs entirely on the Mac with whisper.cpp, accelerated by Metal: no account, no cloud, no telemetry.
What I did
- The macOS app in Swift and SwiftUI, with a Rust core around whisper.cpp.
- Clean text: punctuation, filler words removed, voice commands such as “new line” and “new paragraph”.
- Style per app and command mode (“make it more polite”, “translate to English”) with Apple Intelligence, on device.
- Distribution: resumable model download, an app signed and notarized by Apple, English and French interface.
MIT license.
